Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Training

This is a free training course for nurses, junior doctors, and other allied health professionals from all departments across the trusts and the South Thames Network (STSTN).

The Haemoglobinopathies team are delivering three study days, 2 dates in July and 1 in September 2019 which will consist of being a whole day from 09:00 – 17:00 which lunch and refreshments will be provided. This one-day course is an overview of Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassaemia, CPD points and covers the following topics:

  • Sickle cell and thalassaemia overview
  • Pain management
  • Sickle cell complications and escalation
  • A&E and out-patient pathways
  • Paediatric considerations
  • Blood transfusions and haemoglobin disorders
  • Patient perspectives
  • Automated red cell exchanges
  • Iron overload and chelation
  • Up to date Research
  • Psychology Services
